Another week, another collection of news stories. Here are five of my favorite reports from the week beginning Sept. 9th, and surprisingly they all didn’t happen at Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show conference.
PlayStation Vita Gets New Model – During the pre-TGS conference, should off these shiny new PlayStaiton Vitas. They are only set for Japan for right now, but they look very nice. Smaller, thinner, but with a wider screen, the only problem with these models is the lack of an OLED screen.
Sony Announces PS Vita TV – When Travis first posted this story, I commented that this will have a huge impact on the marketplace and I still feel that way. This device will allow gamers to play their Vita games on their TV, along with downloaded PS One and PSP titles. (It is also technically capable of streaming PS3 games) More important than this, the PS Vita TV will act as an affordable media streaming device for Netflix, Hulu Plus, and other apps for those currently without these streaming capabilities. The game changing feature is the ability to use the PlayStation Vita TV to stream PlayStation 4 gameplay to another room without moving the PS4 system. While the initial Vita game support is slightly lacking and Sony claims that there are no plans for release outside Asia for now, I personally can’t wait to get my furry hands on this device.
Mighty No. 9 – How You Can Help Bring It to PS3, PS4 – No old school gamer is happy with the way Capcom has treated the Mega Man franchise in recent years. So when the legendary creator of the franchise, Keiji Inafune, asks for public support for a spiritual sequel to the “Blue Bomber” with much of the old Mega Man team, it is something we should all support. Right now, Inafune-san stands less than $70000 from having enough support to bring Mighty No. 9 to the PlayStation 3, and we here at Stealthy Box would still like to see it come to PlayStation 4.
Rumor: Grand Theft Auto V IS Coming to PS4 – There is nothing like a juicy rumor, and this one classifies as juicy. Briefly on the 11th, Amazon.de had a listing for Grand Theft Auto V for the PlayStation 4, complete with box art. GTAV being ported to next gen consoles has long been rumored, and this is just the latest bit of “confirmation.” The listing has been taken down for now, but Amazon.de has a history of spoiling these big announcements in the past.
Gran Turismo on PS4 in “About a Year or Two” – Polyphony Digital is not known for releasing games in quick succession. So when they announced that the first Gran Turismo for the PlayStation 4 would be released only “a year or two” after the release of Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3, we were all a little surprised. This is more good news for the PlayStation 4. While many of us can’t wait to try Drive Club, it is comforting to know the premier Sony racing franchise won’t take long to follow the jump to next gen.
This is only a sampling of what happened during this week. Expect more PlayStation news and rumors from Stealthy Box in the coming weeks leading up to the launch of the PlayStation 4.
