After a long and weird development that saw Obsidian Entertainment’s South Park game switch publishers, South Park: The Stick of Truth has been confirmed for a December 10, 2013 release. The game will launch for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

News on the game has been scarce following a strong E3 showing, but the timing of Ubisoft’s confirmation makes perfect sense; it coincides with the premiere of the 17th season of the TV show.

The release date also marks the final hurdle for the game, which has had a tumultuous history. Development began in 2011 under the THQ banner, but a delay pushed the initial release from March 2013 to an unspecified date sometime between April 2013 and March 2014. Long before it could reach that time frame, THQ fell apart and South Park: The Stick of Truth – along with all of THQ’s other properties – faced an uncertain future via the auction block. Luckily for both fans of the franchise and Obsidian, Ubisoft was quick to purchase the game and stated that it would aim for a 2013 release.

Along with the release date, Ubisoft also announced a special “Grand Wizard Edition” for $79.99, which, along with the game itself, contains an exclusive six-inch “Grand Wizard Kidrobot Cartman Figure,” the “Kingdom of South Park map,” and the “Ultimate Fellowship Pack,” which contains four unique costumes with their own unique abilities. This Fellowship pack will also be available for anyone that pre-orders the game.

Check out the new trailer below, and look for South Park: The Stick of Truth on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on December 10.
